Activists defending migrants gathered at the border bridge between Ciudad Juárez (Mexico) and El Paso (USA) to request "mercy" and support for the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, in support of deported migrants who are in a difficult situation, lacking economic resources and housing.
Carlos Mayorga, president of the collective for peace and the migrant group Ángeles Mensajeros, explained that the majority of the migrants, mostly Mexicans, being deported from the United States are facing risks due to a lack of resources. Dressed in white and sporting large wings as a symbol of protection, the members of the group called on the authorities of both nations to address the migration crisis with humanity.
Mayorga made an urgent call to Sheinbaum to grant work permits to migrants who remain in Mexico after the cancellation of their migration appointments in the United States, as many of them have no means of livelihood or a place to stay. He also pointed out that most migrants do not plan to return to their home countries due to the difficult conditions they face.
The United States' measure to cancel appointments through the CBP One program has generated uncertainty among thousands of migrants stranded at the northern border of Mexico. In response to this situation, the Business Coordinating Council in Mexico recently offered 35,000 jobs to Mexicans deported by the Donald Trump government in the United States. The 'Mexico Embraces You' strategy seeks to facilitate the reintegration of returned citizens through job promises, social programs, and logistical support.
In this context, activists like Carlos Mayorga continue to work to highlight the difficult situation of migrants and request humanitarian actions from the relevant authorities to ensure their well-being and provide them with opportunities for integration.
